What it's about
You already know how to play this.
If you were a kid with a handheld, you know the ritual: meet the creatures, catch the creatures, watch the entry appear in your index. The completionist itch. The satisfaction of a record with no gaps in it. Memento Dex is built on that muscle memory.
A record is not the same thing as what happened.
We treat our own memories the way we treat a dex entry: filed, permanent, verifiable. They aren't. Everyone's recollection drifts — smoothed over, filled in, quietly revised. Most of the time nobody notices, and most of the time it doesn't matter much. This game is about what it feels like from the inside when it starts to.
From the desk
I'm making a small game about cognitive decline, and I want to be clear: nobody in it is a monster. The goal is that you come out the other side with a little more patience for someone in your life — not a little more fear of them.
It's being built in the open. The field notes below are the actual log: what got made, what broke, what I changed my mind about. If you want the unvarnished version of how a first game gets built, that's the part to read.
